Overview

Accounting Seed is built natively on the Salesforce Platform. If an Accounting Seed customer is not using (or no longer wishes to use) Salesforce Sales Cloud for their CRM (Customer Relationship Management software), they still require a Salesforce OEM license to run Accounting Seed. This article explains what an OEM license is, what changes when switching, and answers common questions.

What is an OEM License?

Salesforce OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) licenses are only available from Salesforce Partners (like Accounting Seed). An OEM license allows the use of Accounting Seed without the need for any additional Salesforce products. Accounting Seed becomes your Salesforce provider, handling everything from support to account management — so if you need more storage, additional users, or have Platform questions, you work directly with Accounting Seed rather than a Salesforce Account Executive.

With a Salesforce OEM license, you receive the following:

    • The Salesforce core platform objects including Accounts, Products, and Contacts
    • Full access to Salesforce Platform features (customizability, click-not-code development, Flows, user profiles, and permission sets), as well as new releases/updates
    • The ability to use other apps built on the Salesforce platform, such as Accounting Seed

Are you a new customer or an existing Salesforce customer?

This article is relevant to both new and existing customers, but your experience will differ slightly:

Not using Salesforce as your CRM? If you are purchasing an OEM license through Accounting Seed instead of implementing a full Salesforce end-to-end experience, this is your starting point. You will be set up directly on the Salesforce Platform through Accounting Seed as your provider. Jump to Provisioning and Setup to understand what to expect.

Existing Salesforce customer? If you currently have a Salesforce license, such as Enterprise or an ISV (Independent Software Vendor) license with Sales or Service Cloud, and are considering switching to OEM, the What Changes When Switching to OEM? section is especially important for you, as you will lose access to certain Salesforce products.

What Changes When Switching to OEM?

Switching from a Salesforce CRM/Sales Cloud license to an OEM license typically happens when an Accounting Seed customer will no longer be using Salesforce Sales Cloud for their CRM but will continue to use Accounting Seed to manage their finances.

What Salesforce objects and features do I lose when switching to OEM?

When switching to OEM, depending on which Salesforce apps you had, you will lose access to:

  • Sales Cloud objects: Opportunities, Leads, Campaigns
  • Service Cloud objects: Cases
  • Other Salesforce-provided apps that are not part of the core Salesforce Platform

What Salesforce features do I retain with an OEM license?

You retain access to:

  • Core Salesforce objects: Accounts, Contacts, Products
  • Salesforce platform features: custom objects and fields, approval processes, Flows and automation, user profiles and permission sets
  • All Accounting Seed functionality
  • All other integration, file storage, or automation behaviors remain unchanged

How do I access Accounting Seed going forward?

Your Org ID and log-in process will not change when switching to an OEM license. You are still logging in to the Salesforce Platform; your Salesforce license, however, is now managed through Accounting Seed instead of through Salesforce directly.

Technical Capabilities

Does OEM limit file storage or email functionality?

No, OEM does not limit file storage, email functionality, or integrations. Each org starts with a baseline of 10GB of data storage, and additional storage can be purchased through Accounting Seed as needed. Storage capacity also increases with each additional user license added to your org.

Can I still integrate with other systems using OEM?

Yes, all integration, file storage, and automation behaviors will remain unchanged when switching to an OEM license. OEM has access to:

  • The full Salesforce API (Application Programming Interface)
  • Standard API limits as documented in Salesforce's OEM User License Comparison

Can OEM customers integrate with other CRMs?

While technically possible through the Salesforce API, one of the main benefits of having your finances and CRM on the same Platform is having a single database and the ability to share Salesforce objects across functions.

Can I use other Salesforce apps with OEM?

Yes, you can use other apps built on the Salesforce Platform with your OEM license. However, if you're using third-party apps that heavily rely on Sales Cloud, verify compatibility before switching, as you may lose access to those apps or their features.

Data and Migration

What happens to existing data (Opportunities, Leads, Cases) when switching from a Salesforce Enterprise/ISV license to an OEM license?

When converting from ISV to OEM:

  • One admin user is retained in the org for historical access to Opportunities, Leads, Cases, etc.
  • You should not lose access to historical data
  • Best practice: It is highly recommended to back up all data prior to conversion

Is there a way to test OEM before switching?

Unfortunately, there is no way to generate an OEM sandbox from your current production org to test before switching. The conversion is performed directly in production. We recommend:

  1. Backing up all your data before conversion
  2. Reviewing this FAQ thoroughly
  3. Discussing any concerns with your Accounting Seed Account Manager

License Management

How do I switch my Salesforce System Administrator when I only have one OEM System Admin license?

If you only have one System Admin license and need to switch it to another user:

  1. Submit a case with Salesforce Support with justification for needing a temporary license
  2. Salesforce will provision a temporary System Admin license
  3. During the temporary period, assign the System Admin profile to the new user
  4. Notify Salesforce when the temporary period is complete so they can deactivate the temporary license

Important considerations:

  • Ensure no scheduled jobs are running under the old admin user that would break after permission changes
  • The temporary license is time-limited, so plan accordingly

Can non-Accounting Seed users see Accounting Seed fields?

When you purchase a Salesforce OEM license from Accounting Seed, an Accounting Seed license is also included as the two are bundled together. Full Accounting Seed functionality is available with that license and can be restricted using permission sets to limit access to accounting data as needed.

Are there different types of OEM User Licenses available?

Yes. Each Salesforce OEM license package includes one System Administrator user. The remaining licenses are Salesforce Platform licenses, which can be paired with different permission sets depending on your needs:

  • Full Accounting Seed access
  • View Only Accounting Seed access
  • Limited access for specific functions (e.g., PO-only access)

Provisioning and Setup

What is the process for switching to OEM?

Customer responsibilities include:

  1. Understanding what objects and features will no longer be accessible
  2. Backing up any critical data before the switch
  3. Notifying their team about the upcoming changes

Accounting Seed handles:

  • Creating the new contract
  • Coordinating with Salesforce for the OEM license provisioning

How do I purchase an OEM license if I am new to Accounting Seed?

OEM licenses are purchased directly through Accounting Seed — not through Salesforce. To get started:

  • Contact our Sales team through the Accounting Seed website to discuss licensing options and pricing, or contact us at info@accountingseed.com
  • Contact your Account Manager if you are an existing Accounting Seed customer looking to add or switch to OEM licensing

How are OEM licenses provisioned/activated?

  1. Your Account Manager submits an OEM license order to Salesforce
  2. Once fulfilled, the licenses are provisioned in your org by the Accounting Seed team
  3. You'll be notified when licenses are active and ready to use
