Overview

The Pack and Ship process creates a Shipment record from allocated Sales Order Lines, recording the outbound inventory movement for each packed product. This article covers Pack and Ship for organizations using the standard cost inventory valuation method.

If your Sales Order is to be fulfilled via a Drop Ship Purchase Order, the steps in this article are not required. When a Drop Ship Purchase Order is received in full, the Shipment record is created automatically and the record Type is set to Drop Shipment. Before You Begin

• Before packing a Sales Order, allocate the Sales Order Lines that will be included in the shipment. See Allocate Inventory to a Sales Order (Standard Cost).
• If the order will ship in more than one shipment, allocate only the quantities for each shipment before packing that shipment.

Pack and Ship a Sales Order

1. Navigate to Accounting Home > Create Entries > Orders > Sales Orders.
2. Select a list view other than Recently Viewed.
3. Select the Sales Order.
4. Click the Billings & Shipments tab.
5. In the Shipments related list, click New.
6. Complete the required fields, including carrier and ship date.
7. Click Save. The Shipment screen displays.
8. Click Pack.
9. Select the products to include in the shipment.
10. Click Save.
11. To create a packing slip, click Create Packing Slip.

Note: This generates a PDF preview that you can save and print.

The packing slip filename follows this format:

<Customer Name>_<Sales Order #>_<Shipment #>_<Current Date Time>.pdf

Example: ABC Company_SO-00336_SP-00040_05-21-2026_09:10_AM.pdf

The date and time display based on your locale. The filename is limited to 255 characters; names that exceed this limit are truncated.
