Install Accounting Seed’s Extension Package for VAT (Value-Added Tax) Reporting

Overview

A Value-added tax (VAT) is a tax that is placed on a product or service whenever value is added at each stage of the supply chain. Avalara has a VAT Reporting system that is a VAT tax return filing solution. Accounting Seed provides a data extractor to the Avalara VAT Reporting, which supports the calculation and recording of VAT for users who have VAT Reporting requirements with their local tax authorities. The data extractor provides the ability to transmit data to Avalara for the creation of a VAT return, which can be digitally transmitted to your tax authorities.

Note: With the Iris release, the Accounting Seed data extractor to the Avalara VAT Reporting is only available to our United Kingdom customers. However, there are plans to support additional countries in future releases.

This article provides instructions to install the extension package. To complete the installation of this package, please follow the steps below.

Prerequisites

Install Accounting Seed's Financial Suite Package.
Purchase Accounting Seed’s Extension Package for VAT Reporting.
VAT registration is required and an Avalara VAT Reporting account is also required.
Header Level Posting (HLP) must be enabled.
Request the VAT Reporting extension package installation hyperlinks by creating a Case in our Customer Support Community.
In order to install the VAT Reporting extension package, a user will need to be assigned the AS Full Admin Permission Set.

Install the Accounting Seed UK VAT Reporting Extension
Configure Standard PDF Formats

Complete the Company Information

Click the Gear icon and select Setup.
From the left navigation panel, scroll down the page and under Settings, click Company Settings | Company Information.
Click Edit. Then, change the Country to GB and the Default Locale to English (United Kingdom).
Scroll down the page and click Save.

Install the Accounting Seed Extension Base and the Accounting Seed VAT Reporting Extension

The Accounting Seed extension package for VAT Reporting includes three different installation hyperlinks. The first two hyperlinks that will be installed below are: Accounting Seed Extension Base and Accounting Seed VAT Reporting Extension. After completing the installation of the first two links, some setups need to be completed before installing the third and final link.

When you receive the VAT Reporting extension package installation links from our Support Team, Log in to your Salesforce Instance.
Note: If you have multiple Salesforce Instances, it is recommended to log out of all others.
Copy and Paste the Accounting Seed Extension Base installation link into the browser’s address bar.
Note: If you are installing in a Sandbox environment, please ensure that you are using the Sandbox Accounting Seed Extension Base installation link. Otherwise, if you are installing in a Production org, ensure that you are using the Production Accounting Seed Extension Base installation link.
Press Enter on the keyboard.
Select who to install the package for and click Upgrade.
Note: The recommendation is to select Install for Admins Only.

Note: The installation of the extension package can take a few minutes. If a message displays stating that the package is taking too long to install, click Done. You will be redirected away from the page and receive an email notification informing you when the package installation has been completed.
When the Accounting Seed Extension Base installation completes, repeat steps 2-4 for the Accounting Seed VAT Reporting Extension installation link.
Note: Remember that if you are installing in a Sandbox environment, please ensure that you are using the Sandbox Accounting Seed VAT Reporting Extension installation link.
After you select the Install for Admins Only radio button, if the message below displays. Click the checkbox to acknowledge. Then, click Install.
Click Continue to grant access to Avalara for the data extraction.
After both installs have run, complete the tax settings information below.

Important: After installing the installation links, a System Administrator should grant Field Level Security (FLS) permissions to other profiles using the Accounting Seed Permission Sets.

Complete the Tax Settings for VAT Reporting

Refer to the Avalara VAT Reporting section in the Tax Settings article.

Install the Accounting Seed UK VAT Reporting Extension

The final installation link (Accounting Seed UK VAT Reporting Extension) will install an initial set of pre-configured country specific Tax Groups/Tax Codes.

Log in to your Salesforce Instance.
Note: If you have multiple Salesforce Instances, it is recommended to log out of all others.
Copy and Paste the Accounting Seed UK VAT Reporting Extension installation link into the browser’s address bar.
Note: Remember that if you are installing in a Sandbox environment, please ensure that you are using the Sandbox Accounting Seed VAT Reporting Extension installation link.
Select who to install the package for and click Upgrade.

Configure Standard PDF Formats

After the install is completed, you can configure the standard PDF formats for your Billings. The Visualforce code to create the PDF layouts are:
