Has anyone successfully used the email cc feature with the Related Contacts objects while still in Classic?

There are 2 distinct ways to implement the invoice cc function.  Both are specific to the interface - classic or lightning.

Has anyone tried doing this with the lightning method while still in classic.  I have a client that is not yet on lightning but wants to use the lightning method of cc'g invoice recipients so they can avoid a data migration when moving to lightning.
