Recurring Billings and repeating Opportunities in NPSP
Our Salesforce org runs NPSP and makes use of the Recurring Donation functionality that automatically generates Opportunities on a monthly basis for our sustaining members. It also appears as though we've made a practice of creating a new Recurring Billing record for each Opportunity, which as far as I can tell, doesn't seem to be doing anything. There's already a Billing on each Opportunity, and the Recurring Billings don't seem to generate new Billings for the newly-created Opportunities each month (at least... there are no Billings appearing on the "Billings Created" related list).
Are Recurring Billings designed to generate new Billings for a single Opportunity? Or are they designed to generate a new Billing on each new Opportunity in a series of Opportunities? It's a little unclear to me.
I'm coming to Accounting Seed as a Salesforce admin, not an accountant, so apologies if there are some fundamental things I'm missing.

Recurring Billings are nothing more than a mechanism to create Billings on a periodic basis. Think of the Recurring Billing record as nothing more than a template. You can create Billings from that template through the automated job, manually or using it in flow if you like.
Strictly speaking it has nothing to do on whether it comes from or relates to an Opportunity or not. You can create a Recurring Billing directly from the Opportunity if you like or you can just create the Billing from the Opportunity.
It sounds like you're creating Billings for each Opportunity. Therefore it doesn't sound like you need a Recurring Billing for any reason. Hopefully that helps. If you have questions please feel free to reach out.
