Flexibility of Edits on Posted Records in Open Periods
I understand why posted records generally can't be edited, but I think there are certain fields that should be editable even if they are posted (but as long as their Accounting Period is open), and that change should update their Transactions:
- Date should be editable even after posting. The Date on Transaction-linked records typically defaults to the created date, even if they are child records of a "header" record with an assigned date. Being able to edit these after posting would make self-auditing of daily Transactions MUCH easier.
- Project and Project Task should be editable on Posted records. Sometimes these records don't get assigned to the correct Projects upon posting and it is a pain to roll them back just to assign a Project, ESPECIALLY if they are on the AP side.
- GL Variables could be editable using the same argument I used for Project lookups.
While I agree posted records should be final in that their dollar Amounts and GL Accounts are finalized, these other fields should be adjustable while their Accounting Periods are open. I don't think we necessarily need two levels of finalization for every single transaction field (1. Posted and 2. Closed Period).
