Would like to hear about this too.  We use Stripe, but haven't linked it to Accounting Seed yet.

AS's built in integration isn't very good. You are better off using an app that integrates to AS. Chargent has one but it doesn't handle credit card refunds properly [creates CDs instead of negative CRs]. Blackthorn doesn't officially support the one they developed anymore but it's still available as an unmanaged package which allows you or a partner to modify it to your needs. Have worked with their functionality and it is heads and tails better than the AS built version.

Anyone who has integrated AS with Stripe, can you please advise if the expected format for the Stripe Customer ID is as shown below? (https://stripe.com/docs/api/customers/retrieve)

I was checking on the KB and does not seem to provide further details about it.

Hi, we still have not done a Stripe/AS integration, but our Form Assembly report (which is what we use with Stripe) gives us:

    PAYMENT ID

Thanks Cindy! will look into that as well.

It looks like the id with prefix "cus" could be the one to use in AS based on the Stripe public documentation: https://stripe.com/docs/api/payment_methods/customer_list

    Fernando,

That Id is the stripe id for the customer...the AS KB wouldn't have any mention of it since they don't use it at all.  If you go into Stripe and select any customer record, you can see that the Id in the URL follows that format: cus_xxxx

    Thanks Bao for confirming.

I was under the impression that if we don't have the credit card info (or don't want to enter it in Accounting Seed), we could use the "Stripe Customer ID" instead, and by entering it, AS will take care of the customer's payment method as per the article in the KB (https://support.accountingseed.com/hc/en-us/articles/230355048-Add-a-Payment-Method)

    Maybe I'm missing something.

    Thanks again!

    Fernando ,

That article doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either. I don't know why or how AS would create a payment method off of the customer ID alone. Are you designing your own integration?

    Thanks Bao!

I was trying to configure the functionality for using Stripe, however, I had the impression that all I needed was the Stripe Customer ID and there was a built-in functionality taking care of the rest for bringing in the payment methods. I am following up with Support on this topic as well since this is still confusing for me and need to have clear expectations as if the pulling of data can be automated in any way or just need to enter all the payment method related information manually.

In brief, I am not designing an integration for this purpose just now.

Just to add (slightly) to the conversation, I do not believe that the customer ID serves as a token.  Stripe probably does have an ID that does serve as a Token, but I would assume that a given customer could potentialy have multiple payment methods, so the ID alone wouldn't be sufficient on its own.  (But this is all conjecture, as I have not worked iwth it directly in a long time, and I don't have a current login to check my assumptions).  Bao has much more recent experience with it than I do ;-)
