Overview
Payroll files can be imported into Journal Entries quickly and easily.
Note: This feature is enabled only in the Lightning environment.
Configuration Changes
Important: To use this feature you must enable My Domain in Salesforce. To learn more, view the Salesforce My Domain article. Additionally, set your profile's Payroll File Import Tab setting to Default On.
- Click the Salesforce Setup icon at the top right corner.
- In the left menu panel, navigate to ADMINSTRATION | Users | Profiles and select each profile (one at a time) that should have access to this feature.
- From the Apps section, select Object Settings.
Note: Click here to view the above image in full screen. - Scroll down the list and select Payroll File Import.
- If the Tab Settings drop-down list does not display as "Default On," click Edit and select Default On. Then, click Save.
Import a Payroll File
- Create a payroll file and save it to your desktop. The payroll file needs to be saved as a .csv file and needs to include the following columns:
Important: These five required columns on the .csv file must be in the order listed below.
-- Journal Entry
-- Date
-- GL Account
-- Debit
-- Credit
The following additional columns are optional and do not require a specific order on the .csv file:
-- GL Variables 1-4
-- Account
-- Project
-- Project Task
Note: If any of the optional columns are included in the .csv file, they will display when you click Upload File. Additionally, if you include the optional columns, information must already be set up in Accounting Seed. For example, if you include a Project and Project Task, these records must already exist in Accounting Seed. Otherwise, an error message will display when you attempt to create records from the uploaded file. - Log into Accounting Seed.
- Navigate to Accounting Home and click the Create Entries tab. Then, under the Ledger menu, click Payroll File Import.
Note: If an error message displays when you click Payroll File Import, then you may need to edit your profile's File Import Tab setting. Navigate to Setup | Users | Profiles. Select your profile and edit the Payroll File Import Tab Settings to Default On. - On the Payroll File Import page click Upload File.
- Select a Ledger from the drop-down list, if applicable.
Note: If you only have one Ledger, it will default. - If you are using a Department as an Accounting Variable, and you have set up Department as one of the fields on Payroll File Import object, select the GL Variable from the Department drop-down list to map your department code to the GL Variable.
- Click Create Records.
- Once imported, the Journal Entry will need to be posted to the Ledger.

This sample payroll import doesn't include a column for cash flow category. Can the cash flow category be imported in the PR JE? Or will we need to go to the JEL and manually enter?
